King Receives Secretary General of Amnesty International

His Majesty King Abdullah II received on Monday Secretary General of Amnesty International Irene Khan who is currently on a visit to the Kingdom within the Amnesty's activities in the field of human rights.

His Majesty Welcomed the visit of the Amnesty's delegation to Jordan, expressing keenness to continue cooperation with the international organization and support its efforts in human rights fields. " Jordan's establishment of a human rights center increases our conviction in the importance of supporting human rights and preserving the dignity of Jordanian individuals," he said.

The Amnesty secretary general for her part praised openness and transparency in Jordan as well as the substantial progress that Jordan has achieved in the human rights area. Khan stressed the importance of establishing the National center for Human Rights in Jordan.

A Royal Decree was issued on February 18 on the establishment of the National Center for Human Rights. The Center which has legal authorities aims at protecting human rights and preventing any violations in this field.
