His Majesty King Abdullah, on Tuesday Al Husseiniya Palace, received the chairman of the United Arab List at the Israeli Knesset, Mansour Abbas.

Discussions at the meeting covered the latest developments in the Palestinian Territories and means to push the peace process forward.

King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the Palestinian people’s pursuit of their just and legitimate rights.

His Majesty stressed the need to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The King said Jordan will continue its efforts to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite Custodianship.

For his part, Abbas commended His Majesty’s position on the Palestinian cause and Jordan’s efforts to preserve the status quo in Jerusalem and support the steadfastness of Jerusalemites, expressing appreciation for the Kingdom’s role in facilitating procedures for education and the greater and lesser Muslim pilgrimages to Mecca (Hajj and Umra) for Arab Israelis.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
