His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday affirmed that the success of Parliament is a triumph for all Jordanians.

During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with members of the House of Representatives’ permanent office—which includes the speaker, the two deputy speakers, and the two assistants to the speaker—King Abdullah said the House is one of the most important channels to convey citizens’ concerns and opinions, emphasising the need to bolster people’s trust in the ability of the House to convey their voices and fulfil their demands.

His Majesty stressed that Jordan is forging ahead with political modernisation, highlighting the important role of the House in this regard and the need for concerted efforts by all.

The King urged promoting public engagement with platform-based political parties and showing openness to all opinions and viewpoints that serve national interests, stressing the value of continuous coordination and the need to address national issues through constructive dialogue and debate.

Discussing challenges facing Jordan’s environment and water sectors, the King pointed to the importance of implementing a desalination project in Aqaba (the National Water Carrier Project), as part of efforts to counter climate change and bolster water resources through strategic projects.

Turning to the Palestinian cause, His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s steadfast and clear positions, voicing full support for the Palestinians as they seek their just and legitimate rights, and stressing that none can question the Kingdom’s positions towards the Palestinian people.

For his part, House Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi said the House is keen on finalising the proposed bills before it, especially those related to the outcomes of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, after thorough deliberations.

He noted the ongoing cooperation between the House and the government, in accordance with the Constitution, urging the government to propose to the public an economic plan that can improve their living conditions.

The speaker said the House seeks to amend its rules of procedure to enhance performance, noting the importance of activating the role of its committees and blocs by holding regular meetings with the executive office.

Attendees from the House’s permanent office addressed several issues related to domestic affairs, reiterating their commitment to implementing the Royal vision on modernising the political system.

They highlighted their commitment to working with the government on proposing recommendations that can help in alleviating poverty and unemployment, enhancing investments, moving forward with administrative reform, and advancing the partnership between the public and private sectors.

They also underlined the importance of active platform-based blocs in enhancing parliamentary action, in the service of the nation and its people.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
