King and Queen Launch Childhood National Plan

Amman
25 October 2004

Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah Monday launched the 2004-2013 National Plan for Childhood, which builds on a previous national plan and the UN Declaration " A World Worthy of Children" as well as on recommendations adopted by the Arab plan for childhood. Their Majesties also signed a letter of commitment for the future of children.

The plan emanates from Their Majesties' vision on Jordan's children which means ensuring a secure environment that helps develop child abilities through relevant legislations, policies and programs that care about the child's physical, mental, social and emotional aspects in a way that goes in line with the national message to build Jordan worthy of children.

This royal vision also goes in line with the world and Arab vision on children. Jordan joined the world initiative for children which aimed to build on previous accomplishments and translate visions related to children into tangible procedures on the ground.

Prime Minister Faisal Al Fayez said the National Plan, launched under the title " Jordan Worthy of Children", means Jordan cares about the child interests so that all children will be able to start their life in the best possible way and are a given the chance for free and good primary education to help them develop their individual abilities within a secure and supportive environment.

Fayez, who outlined Jordan's accomplishments in the field of child health care and maternity, said the government will commit itself to implement the programs contained in the plan, which will be an integral part of future economic and social development plans.
