King Abdullah Opens Talks with Bahraini Monarch

His Majesty King Abdullah II and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain affirmed the support of Jordan and Bahrain to the sovereign decision of the Iraqi people in charting their future and choosing their national leadership.

During the talks that were held in Manama today, the two leaders stressed the necessity to establish an Arab position that supports the decision of the Iraqi people in the establishment of an Iraqi Authority that represents all segments of the Iraqi society. They stressed the need to take all measures in order to ensure the restoration of security and stability in Iraq and the establishment of its civil institutions.

His Majesty King Abdullah II and the King of Bahrain called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in supporting the Iraqi people and taking part in the reconstruction of Iraq. They also emphasized the responsibility of Arab countries in taking part in the building and reconstruction of Iraq.

The two leaders asserted the need to accelerate the process through which the Iraqi people would have full responsibility over their country and their own affairs in order to build the future of Iraq that would ensure freedom and justice for all its citizens. They also stressed the need to ingrain national unity away from differences, resentments and score settlements.

His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa also discussed the latest developments on the Palestinian issue and Arab and international efforts that aim to start the implementation of the roadmap.

During the meeting that was attended by the Prime Minister, Ministers of the Royal Hashemite Court and Foreign Affairs and the Jordanian Ambassador to Manama, the two leaders affirmed the need to accelerate the implementation of the roadmap particularly that it has been approved by the international community.

The two leaders pointed out that the formation of the new Palestinian government is of significant importance at this stage in terms of achieving progress on the ground that would enable this government to hold peace talks that would lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state in three years in accordance with the roadmap.

The talks, which were attended from the Bahraini side by the Prime Minister, the Crown Prince as well as other senior officials, also touched on bilateral ties between the two countries.

His Majesty King Abdullah II arrived at Manama today on a working visit that includes Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Upon arrival at the airport, His Majesty King Abdullah II was welcomed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa as well as several senior officials and the Jordanian Ambassador to Manama.
