King Abdullah meets international democracy groups

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday said Jordan is going ahead with its comprehensive political, economic, social and administrative reform programs.



“We, in Jordan, have set standards to develop the community and to be a model for other countries in the region,” King Abdullah said.



During a meeting with representatives of international groups advocating democracy and human rights in Washington, the King stressed that Jordan's national agenda will contribute to the Kingdom's modernization and achieve the aspirations of all Jordanians. The agenda is expected to be finalized in September.



Stressing on the necessity of supporting political parties which are working according to clear national programs, the King said Jordan seeks to enhance democracy and activate the role of political parties and civil society's institutions to shape a better future for Jordanians.



King Abdullah said it was significant that media outlets carry out their monitoring role in a responsible, professional and ethical manner.



His Majesty the King said Amman Message aims at reflecting the true image of Islam and addressing all Muslims all over the world to help show the tolerance and modernity of Islam and its call for dialogue and co-existence.



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs and Government Performance Marwan Muasher briefed the meeting on the Kingdom's plans to reform the public sector.
