Letter to the people of Jordan on the occasion of Labour Day

From King Abdallah II of Jordan
To the people of Jordan
On the occasion of Labour Day
01 May 2005
Translated from Arabic

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate,

Peace, God’s mercy and His blessings upon you,

It pleases me to express to you and to our nation's labourers, in all their places of work, our pride in them and our appreciation of their work, while we celebrate this day. This occasion signals the Jordanian family's respect for each labourer and gratitude for the vital role of each one in development and national renaissance.

Today, while I greet and congratulate every brother and sister in the national labour force, I would like to affirm that our National Agenda, which is in its final stages of preparation, has devoted to labour and labourers a rather wide sphere of its concern and is among its major themes.

Fighting unemployment in is a major priority, since we are charting now, within our National Agenda, plans and programmes to create more job opportunities and to enhance the efficiency of the Jordanian worker through rehabilitation and training, and through harmonising the outputs of education and training with the labour market's needs and requirements, inside our country and outside.

I trust and hope that our National Agenda will propose basic solutions for many challenges and problems that face the labour sector.

Again, I reaffirm my pride and your country's pride in you, and our appreciation for your good efforts and the way you give to your country. We congratulate you on this occasion and wish you many happy returns.

May God guide us all to success in serving our beloved Jordan.
Peace, God’s mercy and His blessings upon you,

Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein
