Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

The goal must be a peace in which all sides gain. It must be anchored in security and opportunity for all. It must be a peace that will free young Palestinians to focus on a future of progress and prosperity. It must be a peace that makes Israel a part of the neighbourhood, a neighbourhood that extends from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, across the breadth of the southern Mediterranean, to the coast of the Indian Ocean...


This court ruled, clearly, that the Palestinian territories are occupied… that the Palestinian people possess a legal right to self-determination, on Palestinian territory… and that the conflict will only be brought to an end when all relevant Security Council resolutions are, finally, implemented...


Events show clearly that there can be no unilateral solution to the conflict. There must be a genuine partnership among all parties, in the context of international legality and justice. Such a global partnership for peace is directly connected to the global partnership for development. Across the world, nations at peace are moving forward with economic growth and development: investing in education; building communities; helping to shape the future of the globe. But no nation succeeds in isolation. All nations, all people – especially our youth – must be able to share in a promising future...


The future of Israel is not to the Jordan River or to the Golan Heights... The future of the Israelis is peace integrated into the region… from Morocco on the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. That is the promise that the Israelis have. But to be able to do that, you have to have a Palestinian state…


As for the Palestinian issue, Jordan has steadfastly exerted all possible efforts to launch a peace process anew. Jordan also retained, without fail, consultation and liaison with its Arab brethren to realise the Arab Initiative, which received unanimous Arab endorsement. This initiative has stressed the imperative of an Israeli withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied in 1967, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, an agreed solution to the refugee problem based upon UN Resolution 194, and recognition of the Israeli security needs…
