King urges government to learn from mistakes after snowstorm
Amman, 18 December 2013
His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday urged the government to evaluate its response to the recent snowstorm and develop strategies to deal with similar crises in the future.
In a letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, King Abdullah saluted “the brave men and women” in public departments and agencies who “proved capable, within the available means, to jointly pre-plan, coordinate and follow up to manage the weather conditions that prevailed in the Kingdom”.
His Majesty commended the “Jordanian state of unity and solidarity we have witnessed under these difficult conditions”, describing it as a testimony to the Jordanian people’s sincerity, generosity and altruism.
Building on that experience, the King called for evaluating “the coordination mechanism between the concerned authorities, with the aim of reaching the best way to utilise available resources in priority areas at times of crises”.
His Majesty also urged Ensour to use this experience to draw up plans to deal with future emergencies and address shortcomings.
Referring to the disruption in some basic services during the blizzard, the King called for identifying the reasons behind it to avoid its recurrence in the future and hold those guilty of negligence accountable under the law.
