King wishes Jordanians a happy Hijri New Year, attends Hijra New Year celebration
Amman, 5 November 2013
His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday congratulated Jordanians, as well as the Arab and Muslim world, on the Hijri New Year as he attended an official ceremony at the King Abdullah I Mosque in Amman to mark the occasion, organised by the Awqaf Ministry.
Al Hijra marks the anniversary of Prophet Mohammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina, and this year’s Al Hijra anniversary, Muharram 1, 1435 on the Islamic lunar calendar, falls on November 5.
Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood and Jordan's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Karim Khasawneh spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the importance of the prophet's migration, which led to the formation of the first Muslim state.
His Majesty received cables of congratulations from several leaders of Arab and Muslim countries on the occasion.
The King also received similar cables from Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and other senior officials and officers.
