Amman, 17 June 2013

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday told Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul that Jordan was keen on maintaining the security and stability of Afghanistan through its armed forces' participation in the UN peacekeeping mission there.

Rassoul thanked Jordan for its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and its efforts to achieve peace and security in the region. He highlighted the pivotal role played by the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) in Afghanistan and the medical assistance offered to the Afghan people by Jordan's military field hospital.

The JAF have also been working in Afghanistan to train army and police personnel in skills to maintain law and order.

During the meeting, Rassoul conveyed a letter from Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to His Majesty on ways to enhance bilateral ties.

Discussions during the meeting covered means to enhance bilateral relations and ways to help Afghanistan utilise Jordan's expertise in training and rehabilitation.

His Majesty and Rassoul exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East, especially peace efforts and the situation in Syria and its repercussions on the region.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury attended the meeting.
