King checks on Jordanian peacekeepers in Haiti, meets Haitian president

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday visited Haiti to check on the Jordanian peacekeeping forces deployed in the Caribbean country.
King Abdullah, accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben, expressed appreciation for the distinguished performance and the humanitarian role of Jordanian forces in Haiti and for their efforts in maintaining its security and stability.
The King was briefed by the contingent commander Colonel Suleiman Rawashdeh on the duties of the Jordanian troops deployed in the capital Port-au-Prince.
Jordan began participating in the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti in October 2004, while the Kingdom’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions dates back to 1989.
Upon arrival in Port-au-Prince, His Majesty met with the President of Haiti Michel Martelly and discussed ways to boost bilateral ties in addition to issues of mutual concern.
Martelly expressed appreciation for the Jordanian peacekeeping forces in his country.
